"The Possum",, another Texan Gone...

...Who's gonna fill his shoes,,Who's gonna stand up Tall?
Who's  gonna sing the "Opery",,, and tha The Wabash Cannon Ball"?

I don't know a country (Texas) "picker" that has not worn out a pick-up load of git-tar strangs picking  George Jone's songs.

  1. Awwww. I didn't know. I might pick up my git-tar tonight in memorial. I AM making a fire in the pit. Join me Mr. Glenn. Bring the boss :) I won't let anyone sit on your logs either!

  2. George was in Chattanooga last month, but we didn't find out about it until it was too late to get tickets...thirty minutes away, and we missed him! And now, of course, we're just sick about the missed opportunity. There will never be another like him, though hopefully someone will come along who will aspire to be.

  4. What a life he lived, with equal amounts of joy and sorrow--in huge quantities. His voice was like the smoothest molasses, sweet and soulful, imbued with all the good stuff of life. May he sing with the angels now....

  5. Well said my friend! My "I" phone doohickey has a number of his classics I listen to frequently. Ole Possum "lived" those songs.
